So far I have learned the value of the typography in posters and print media but to further develop my skills I decided to expand beyond my comfort zone and flirt a little bit with web design. I have been web-curious at the beginning of last year building my portfolio and looking for a goal to discover what is the proper way to break up and design a functional website. So far, I have seen technical and too complex for me to try and figure it out how the hell I am going to do this.

Story short, I recommend to every graphic designer to read the article Web Design Basix: Why Typography Matters it explains in a graphic designer’s words how to construct, deconstruct and built a functional website using the graphical element of type.

This typographic poster features a photographed 3-D two-tone blackletter paper sculpture overlaid with an original graphite line drawing.

I was blown away for the actual craftsmanship of the sculpted type, the illustration details are exquisite and carefully crafted, I really cannot resist to buy this poster.

A hundred logos in hundred days? this sounds crazy insane but crazy creative work by a Croatian graphic designer Robert Butkovic. The hard part is to came up the the creative concept for each logo (render it might take a few minutes) and if we compare this process, this will be like training for a marathon, it take serious cognitive skills to create a logo each day. I certainly enjoyed his work, some has movie inspiration (U.S. movies for the most part) and a lot of Westies (Croatia’s popular dogs) that have a good concept behind it.

I consider myself I am the generation that was in the middle of a technological boom, where more efficient devices are thinking for ourselves and sometimes I felt that embracing this new era has been a constant struggle for me as a designer. To create something new and use my hands is an important part of my life, I love doing crafts, draw, doing paper-mache, but the computer has becoming more and more a guilty pleasure and I almost afraid to say, I am addicted to them.

In this interview to James Victore really open my eyes to keep me motivated and do what I love most, draw. I will not become a zombie:

iPhones are killing our discipline, killing our ability for solitude, and killing our ability to be bored.

I will always keep in mind and in my heart what my Graphic Design professors said: always draw, sketch and create new ideas.
